What if suit-less motion capture technology could be used for martial arts training? This project created throughout the duration of the "Business and Social Innovation" course is a concept for a business that sells exactly that. Using 3 camera angles and motion capture software, bodily movements are recorded and turned into 3D models in order to analyze movements with pinpoint accuracy for rewatching and teaching purposes. The product involves 2 motion capture cameras, and a phone app that includes training content, movement analysis, and lessons for a monthly subscription. The best part of the product would be the movement analysis capabilities, being able to compare recorded movements to that of martial arts experts and tell the user exactly what they need to improve, for thousands of different techniques. Without the confines of a motion capture suit or prolonged setup, this product would allow martial artists from beginner level to black belt level to hone their techniques alone or at the dojo. The product's portability, accuracy, and ability to teach techniques accustomed to people's body types could push martial arts training into the next generation, and other physical sports in the future too.
