Digi Forest is an AR project exploring the merging of seemingly opposing realms - the physical and the virtual, the natural and the technological. Depicting Trinidadian plant life, Digi Forest situates the user within a virtual forest emanating from its technological source - the user’s mobile device. This extension creates forms of permeation, endeavouring a world of hybridity and sustainable generation. Digi Forest features a collage of photogrammetry scans, a process in which physical forms are converted into 3D digital models compatible with the virtual world. This process of conversion and subsequent re-assimilation via AR projection spawns a bridge between opposing realms. What manifests is a space to reimagine true hybridity between nature and technology. Each model was scanned from Wa Samaki Ecosystems, a permaculture facility located in Trinidad. After being composed within Blender, these models are then projected in AR with A-Frame and 8th Wall, and can be accessed by via QR code.
